It’s International Men’s Day on Monday 19th November (yes, IMD is a thing, for any of those silly boys that spend all 8th March (International Women’s Day) bleating about it on Twitter…) 😉
So, I thought it would be an idea to hold a gig to a) raise money for charity and b) to witness some cracking live sets, courtesy of some of Leeds’ finest male performers.
The event will be held at the fabulous (and reasonably priced) Chemic Tavern in Woodhouse, LS6. It’s all going to be in aid of two very deserving local charities:
Andy’s Manclub Leeds (male mental health support group. Because, as the old British Telecom advert used to say – it’s good to talk…)
Leeds Mind: https://facebook.com/MindLeeds/?ref=br_rs
I, the one and only synthpop-tastic A short Dark Stranger (https://facebook.com/ashortdarkstranger/) shall be your compere extraordinaire through this musical & poetical journey.
Acts already confirmed are:
Graeme Brittles (acoustic protest / political pop. Billy Bragg if he was the Bard of Bootle & not Barking…).
Mike Southwell (poetry, philosophy & a healthy slice of putting the world to rights).
Dave Lynch (idiosyncratic vocals & guitar, with a thoughtful yet incisively aggressive edge).
Jarnail Mudhar (one third of Leeds based Americana rock power trio Hombre, performing an acoustic solo set. Turning down the volume but still burning down the house!
Tim Gomersall – Chinchilla Death Cult’s (yes, that’s their name) lead vocalist & guitarist performing his own brand of skilful ska & feisty flamenco.
More acts (and activities) to follow! Watch this space for updates!
The theme for IMD 2018 is ‘Positive Male Role Models’. Why not come dressed as your favourite positive male role model to really get into the spirit of the occasion? There will be a prize for the best costume! All are welcome to take part in the fancy dress – it’s not just for the boys!
All to be topped off with a suitably fun 80s / 90s retro disco, with cheesy pop & rock provided by your friendly neighbourhood compere! (Me, in case you were wondering 😉 )
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The pub’s open until 1.30am, so why not stay & party the night away after the gig?
See you there!
