This international men’s day is themed men and boys. Much of our work in North Edinburgh is with young men aged 13+. These boys face serious challenges growing up in a tough environment. Peer pressure in the community is constant and taking short-cuts such as stealing to make a living becomes a temptation.
Young boys and men feel pressure to conform to a standard of masculinity that dictates you have to provide, protect yourself and not lose face. This rigid form of masculinity prevents young men from seeking help and trying new things which could help brighten their future
Trying bold and different things has been proven to be key to positive mental health and well-being. This international men’s day- we at U-evolve are taking on a sponsored day in heels – this is guaranteed to be a great laugh and we’ll be taking pictures and videos throughout the day!
The idea is to raise awareness for behavioural flexibility and embracing things deemed to be un-manly. Traditional masculinity can be damaging to positive mental health, preventing men from seeking help and expressing their emotions. Let’s embrace change today, as men
