The Rape of Men Debate at Institute of Development Studies (IDS)

19 November 2015 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

Gender & Sexuality Provocations Seminar Thursday 19th November 2015

The Rape of Men… Seriously; a Gender Issue?

Guest speakers: Chris Dolan (Refugee Law Project, Kampala), Steven Kighoma (Men of Hope Association, Kampala) and  Martyn Sullivan (Mankind, Brighton)

12:30 to 14:00            IDS, Room 221

After screening a 20 minute dramatised film by the members of Men of Hope Association, ‘Men Can Be Raped Too’, we will – in a live-streamed debate – hear short provocations from RLP and male survivors involved about the reality of male rape in the context of African conflicts, and how displacement as refugees conspires to hide victimised men’s vulnerabilities in a context of frenzied homophobia in Uganda. We will also hear short reflections on the project from an IDS colleague and from Mankind, a group working to support male survivors of abuse locally in Brighton and Hove.
