There is a growing need to ensure men and their children receive male-victim friendly support and responses from organisations in the statutory\, private and third sectors – at a local\, regional and national level. This includes ensuring statutory\, safeguarding and equality obligations are met. The new Domestic Abuse Bill and its Statutory Guidance applies to male victims too! \nThis is the eighth annual national conference on male victims of domestic abuse hosted by the charity. Delegates will hear from a range of survivors alongside domestic abuse practitioners and academics who specialise in this field. In 2019\, over 100 delegates attended and 98% rated the conference as either excellent (87%) or good (11%). \nSurvivors will speak candidly about their experiences – what happened to them\, what support they received and how they have rebuilt their lives. \nSpeakers will highlight how you can help male victims and their children in your local community escape. This includes setting up male-victim friendly services\, the experiences and lessons to be learned from running them. There will also be tips for running public communications. \nAcademics will set out their latest research findings including new research on male victims of coercive and controlling behaviour. \nThe conference also meets the NICE Quality Standards on Domestic Abuse. \nWho should attend\nThis is a CPD accredited conference aimed at professionals and practitioners who work with domestic abuse victims/survivors or wish to find our how to support male victims. \nThese roles include those working in community safety\, public health\, social services\, domestic abuse\, the legal system (police\, solicitors\, CPS\, probation)\, adult/children safeguarding\,  public health\, housing associations\, health service\, victim support\, anti-social behaviour\, men’s health & welfare\, equality & diversity\, voluntary/third sector\, students\, academics & researchers. \nThose commissioning domestic abuse or similar services are very welcome too and this conference will help understand this key victim/survivor group. \nHow the conference will help your role?\nIn 2019\, 98% of delegates rated the conference \n\nas excellent (87%) or good (11%) overall\nwas very likely (69%) or likely (29%) to impact the way they worked\nwas very likely (49%) or likely (49%) to impact how their organisation worked\n\nThe conference is CPD accredited (six points) \n \nDay 1 (17 November)\nAcademics will set out their latest research findings including new research on male victims of coercive and controlling behaviour. \nSurvivors will speak candidly about their experiences – what happened to them\, what support they received and how they have rebuilt their lives. \n\nDr Elizabeth Bates: Senior Lecturer in Applied Psychology\, University of Cumbria\nDr Ben Hine: Senior Lecturer in Psychology\, University of West London\nThree male survivors (Paul\, Tim and Tony)\, and\, a mother and ex-partner of male victims\n\nDay 2 (18 November)\nLeading practitioners will highlight how you can help male victims and their children in your local community escape.
