SUMMARY:Cumbria Chamber of Commerce: Supporting men at work event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an event to mark International Men’s Day 2024 with Andy’s Man Cub\, Hamilton Training Services and Fell Foodie! \nCumbria Chamber of Commerce invite you to an event theme of ‘supporting men at work’\, with conversations around mental health\, health and wellbeing\, overcoming adversity and positive male role models. \nThe aim of the event is to raise awareness of some of the issues affecting men and highlight best practice and ways employers can support men to bring their best selves to work. We also aim to promote the work of support services including Andy’s Man Club\, Carlisle. \nRefreshments including tea\, coffee and breakfast rolls will be provided. \nWomen are also welcome to attend this event. \nFind out more about our speakers below. \nHarrison Ward (Fell Foodie)\nHarrison Ward\, perhaps better known as Fell Foodie\, is a Cumbrian outdoor cook who loves to recreate restaurant style meals on minimal equipment (usually a camp stove) in remote locations. Hear about how he takes modern practices back to their primal roots and shows what can be cooked in the outdoors as well as sharing the importance of time outdoors for physical and mental wellbeing. Harrison’s talk will address about his personal battle with depression\, suicidal thoughts and journey from an overweight\, alcoholic\, smoker to the fit\, fell loving foodie he is today. \nCraig Hamilton\, Hamilton Training Services / CIPD\nCraig Hamilton is a skilled L&D professional with experience across multiple sectors including construction\, rail\, financial services\, adult education\, charity / third sector and trade associations. He is passionate about developing people at every level and this shines through in his interactions and delivery. \nGary Martin\, David Allen IT / Andy’s Man Club\n“I’m a Director of David Allen IT Solutions and have over 30 years experience in the IT industry. From January this year I attended the newly formed Carlisle Andy’s Man club event and within a few weeks completed my training to become a facilitator. Andy’s man club is a national charity with over 200 support groups meeting every Monday across the country. There is approaching 5000 men attend these meetings across the country each week\, the Carlisle club getting an average of 40 guys attending every Monday. \nANDYSMANCLUB takes its name from Andrew Roberts\, a man who sadly took his own life aged 23 in early 2016. Andy’s family had no inkling that he was suffering or struggling to the extent that he would do this\, and as a result looked deeper into male suicide and men’s mental health. They soon discovered that male suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50\, with male mental health surrounded by well-ingrained cultural stigma in the UK. Andys Man Club was established in 2016 by Elaine\, Andy’s Mum\, and Luke\, Andy’s Brother-in-Law\, the aim of the club is to provide men with a safe space where they feel comfortable to talk and open up about their experiences in a room free of judgment.” \nAbout International Men’s Day \nIn the UK\, International Men’s Day is overseen by the Men and Boys Coalition charity. Activities for International Men’s Day are centered on three broad themes: \n\nMaking a positive difference to the wellbeing and lives of men and boys\nRaising awareness and/or funds for charities supporting men and boys’ wellbeing\nPromoting a positive conversation about men\, manhood and masculinity\n\nFind out more: https://ukmensday.org.uk/ \nWith thanks to our sponsors Fell Foodie and Leo Group Ltd.

SUMMARY:Masculinity in the Workplace 2024
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Masculinity in the Workplace\, the only event in the UK that is designed specifically to engage men with inclusion and diversity. Marking International Men’s Day\, the objective of our event is to give men both the reason and the skills to lean into the conversation\, while also providing women and non-binary people with the confidence to engage more men in inclusion and diversity. Because ultimately we can only make real change by working together. \nDate: Tue Nov 19 2024 \nTime: 13:00 GMT \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nOur speakers will share their insights and experiences\, shedding light on the evolving dynamics of masculinity in diverse work environments. You’ll have the chance to ask questions\, participate in interactive sessions\, and network with like-minded professionals. \nThe theme for this year is ‘Leading with Heart’. The rapid development of AI is making it more pressing than ever to differentiate ourselves for our leadership and for our careers. Equally the world seems more polarised than ever before with many people leading from hurt. In the face of this\, skills previously thought of as ‘soft’ skills (and as such potentially disregarded by many)\, e.g. empathy\, compassion\, connection and vulnerability\, will become the core skills needed for leadership in the future. \nThis is the digital version of the event with the in-person event being exclusive to our partners. If you are keen to come to the in-person event\, please do get in contact. \n\n\n\n\nWHAT TO EXPECT\nThe event is for anyone who is passionate about driving gender equality in the workplace and we welcome everyone however they identify or express themselves (historically 40% of attendees have been female or non binary and 60% male). In particular we would love to see a broad representation of CEOs\, CMOs\, HR Directors and Inclusion & Diversity Practitioners. \nExpect to come away with: \n\nA better understanding of your own role in driving change to create workplaces that are inclusive\, equitable and diverse\nCase studies to show how change is already being delivered in the workplace\, specifically how workplaces are successfully engaging men with inclusion and diversity\nA list of small things you can do tomorrow as an individual and business to make a difference to ensuring everyone feels included in the workplace\nA different perspective on the future of work and where we are heading

SUMMARY:Webinar - Male hormones and men's mental health
DESCRIPTION:This live webinar will focus on exploring the intricate connection between men’s hormones and men’s mental health. This timely event will delve into the often overlooked but critical aspects of how hormonal fluctuations and imbalances can significantly impact mental well-being in men. Our facilitator for the day is the renowned Ryan Parke. Ryan is The Men’s Coach – a TEDx Speaker specialising in how hormones\, lifestyle and goal setting impact male mental health. \nHaving created an evidence-based framework drawing upon over 1\,000 sources and his extensive coaching experience\, Ryan works with industry leaders\, charities\, and NHS Trusts who want to provide effective support to men. His 90-day coaching programme helps men to improve their mental health by using science-based strategies to achieve their life goals. Ryan will be joined by a fantastic line-up of speakers including expert endocrinologists\, psychiatrists\, and mental health professionals who will gather to share their insights\, backed by the latest research\, and engage in in-depth discussions. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the physiological and psychological interplay of hormones like testosterone\, cortisol\, and thyroid hormones and their role in mood regulation\, anxiety\, depression\, and overall mental health. \nOne of the primary objectives of the webinar is to shed light on the signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalances that are frequently misdiagnosed or dismissed in clinical settings. Presentations will cover how a variety of conditions and disorders can mimic or exacerbate mental health issues\, leading to mismanagement or inadequate treatment of affected individuals. Through case studies and lived experience examples\, the webinar will illustrate the importance of accurate diagnosis and the implementation of targeted treatment strategies that address both hormonal and psychological components for effective patient outcomes. \nThe interactive format of the webinar will facilitate a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences among participants. Live Q&A sessions will allow attendees to pose questions directly to the experts\, fostering a collaborative learning environment. This event is not only an educational opportunity but also a call to action for healthcare providers to integrate a more holistic approach in their practices. By emphasizing the significance of hormonal health in the context of mental health\, the webinar aims to inspire ongoing research\, better diagnostic tools\, and more personalized treatment plans that can improve the quality of life for men experiencing these complex health issues.
