DESCRIPTION:Mary Portas\, author of Work Like a Woman and founder of the Portas Agency\, is leading the line-up at this year’s Masculinity in the Workplace conference. \nThe conference takes place on International Men’s Day\, 19 November\, in the London headquarters of Havas KX. It will also feature Han-Son Lee (founder of Daddilife); Marvyn Harrison (founder of Dope Black Dads); and Coca-Cola European Partners’ Richard Schmidt. \nIt will offer attendees the opportunity to debate and discuss new\, modern constructs around masculinity. By challenging constructs of masculinity that currently exist in some workplaces\, the event will open up fresh conversation to provide inspiration for change. \nAttendees will learn more about the opportunities for male leaders to embrace change\, how to expand their capacity for vulnerability\, and will take part an open conversation around mental health issues. \nThe event will be powered by culture change business Utopia and The Hobbs Consultancy\, in collaboration with HeANDShe and Token Man.  The line-up also features CDM Group’s Phil Bartlett and accessibility rights activist Will Pike. \nDaniele Fiandaca\, co-founder at Utopia and Token Man\, said: “Recent focus has been on the changes that women need to make to fit into a masculine workplace\, when we should be focusing on creating more inclusive workplaces which work for all genders. This event will re-examine the damaging traditional masculine traits that are hindering modern businesses\, and explore ways we can build workplace cultures that are more effective and more inclusive for everyone. \n“This event is for anyone who is passionate about driving gender equality in the workplace and we welcome everyone however they identify or express themselves. In particular we would love to see a broad representation of CEOs\, CMOs\, HR Directors and inclusion & diversity practitioners.” \nRoxanne Hobbs\, founder of HeANDShe and The Hobbs Consultancy\, added: “The vision for the event is to re-examine the idea of the hero. We found that many leaders who had really questioned their bias\, impact and stereotypes were those for whom something hard had happened. DESCRIPTION:Young Men Motivation Project- “This is me”\nLeaflet – Talent Match Young Men Project \nOn 19th November 2019\, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world\, their families and communities. The event promised to promote the importance of positive male role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. \nAim of the proposed Project: – Linked to the future International Men Day Awareness Event 2019\, the project aims to provide a positive interactive opportunity for a group of low-esteem young men\, who are supported by Black Country Talent Match\, to partake in a series of single gender’s tailored personal motivation and career guidance activities\, to increase their self-confidence and practically increase their potential awareness\, and finally\, actively signpost them to career and employment opportunities. \nObjectives of the proposed Young Men Motivation Project: – \n• To deliver a single gender focused project to coordinated Black Country Talent Match’s existing mentoring skills and career guidance resources\, and the active participation of their partner agencies\, to provide a focussed and beneficial engagement strategy to the current engagement work and targeted self-confidence/employability outcomes with male clienteles. \n• The delivery of four personal development and motivation themed sessions for an identified group of male clienteles by the Talent Match West Bromwich HUB. \n• To provide additional quality well-being and positive mental health support to a group of identified low esteem male clienteles\, who believe that the consequence of their criminal records currently hinders both their life and career opportunities. \n• Project to be delivered to actively reflects the engagement agenda of Talent Match with their clienteles\, where the male participants will participate in positive decision-making activities to identify achievable solutions to their life challenges\, and gain a greater personal awareness of their gender identify and the social issues which affects their lives. \nProposed Project’s activity programme. \nThe project to consist of four sessions\, focussing on providing a ‘group engagement’ platform for a group of Talent Match’s male clienteles\, to discuss a wide range of social and life topics that they believe currently affects their current situations and their employment opportunities. The next stage of the project would be to assist the participants to identify achievable solutions to their own life challenges and barriers\, and finally\, signpost them to employment\, work experience or further employability training opportunities via the active involvement of Talent Match’s partner agencies\, such as the Department of Work and Pension\, identified employment training providers\, etc. \nProposed Workshops- Four sessions over a period of four weeks \nFirst session- Tuesday 29th October 2019 (1.5 hours)\n✓ Group theory interactive activity with male participants with invited guests. \nSecond session- Tuesday 5th November 2019 (2 hours)\n✓ Podcast video recordings of male participants’ personal life experiences and aspirations. These include topics such as men’s health\, diversity\, toxic masculinity\, coping with bereavement and the prevalence of male suicide. \nEach year the event has gone from strength to strength in the UK and is marked and celebrated by a variety of organisations in the private\, public and charitable sectors across the country. SUMMARY:Suicide and Self Harm Lecture at Queen's University Belfast
DESCRIPTION:The School of Psychology at QUB invites all staff and students to attend a presentation for International Men’s Day 2019\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nAs part of the School’s Athena SWAN activities\, we have invited Prof Siobhan O’Neill (Ulster University) to present her seminal work on suicide and self harm. The presentation followed by Q&A is at 2-3pm and takes place in OG.115 in the David Keir Building. \nWe would be delighted if you would consider joining us. \nSummary \nSuicide is a leading cause of death of men in Northern Ireland\, and recent studies have shown that one in five students here have engaged in self harm. In this talk Siobhan will discuss the factors associated with suicidal behaviour and self-harm including the role of mental illness and emotional regulation. She will explain the psychological and biological functions of suicidal behaviour as the basis for an understanding of what we can do to address this problem\, and what treatments work to address this problem. In this talk Siobhan will discuss her own recent studies of factors impacting on suicidal behaviour in public places\, and the evidence of suicidal behaviour as a result of the transgenerational legacy of the Troubles. \nSpeaker Biography \nProfessor Siobhan O’Neill is a Professor of Mental Health Sciences at Ulster University where she has worked for almost 20 years. In 2008 Siobhan coordinated the largest ever study of mental health in Northern Ireland\, which was part of the World health Organisation’s World Mental Health Survey Initiative. This study revealed the high proportions of the NI population who engaged in suicidal behaviour and self harm. Siobhan subsequently coordinated the NI suicide study\, a study of the characteristics of over 1600 suicides and undetermined deaths and the first comprehensive mental health study of student mental health in NI. She has over 140 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. Siobhan is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Irish National Suicide Research Foundation\, and counselling charity Youthlife. She sits on the Advisory Board of the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide in people with a mental illness in the UK and is a member of the NI Towards Zero Suicide Collaborative group. Her current research programmes focus on mental health in school children\, the transgenerational transmission of trauma\, and suicide crisis line caller behaviour.

DESCRIPTION:For the last 4 years\, Daniele Fiandaca\, co-founder of Utopia and Token Man\, has been using International Men’s Day to open up a conversation around the impact of Masculinity in the Workplace.\nIn this talk he will explain why he believes it is important to recognise International Men’s Day and how you can use it as a platform for inspiring positive change in the workplace. He will also cover some of the key results from last year’s Masculinity in the Workplace research and will give a taster of what to expect in this year’s Masculinity in the Workplace event whose theme is Inclusive Leadership. \nRegister here\nAbout Daniele:\nDaniele is co-founder of Utopia\, a culture change business that creates more purposeful\, inclusive and entrepreneurial cultures for clients. Utopia’s top-to-bottom\, boardroom to factory floor approach has clinched household names including Coca-Cola European Partners\, Google\, Schneider Electric\, Spotify and Universal Music. \nHe also co-founded Token Man in 2014\, an initiative that gives men a better understanding of gender inequality in the workplace and inspire them to become change-makers. He was named one of Management Today’s Top 30 Male Agents of Change\, and in 2019 was on the Advisory Board for Inclusion Matters. He continues to nurture a number of communities he co-founded\, including Culture Social\, a community for anyone who wants to build better work cultures\, and has co-authored a number of books including Creative Superpowers: Equip Yourself for the Age of Creativity.

SUMMARY:Cracking: a panel discussion on fathers' mental health
DESCRIPTION:A discussion of a new audio-play exploring mental health in new parents.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nCracking is a new play created by the award-winning arts organisation ‘Alright Mate?’. It tells the story of new parents unfolding on the counselling couch where the father is afraid of his own vulnerabilities triggered by new parenthood. It is inspired by the lived experience of couples who’ve been through postnatal illness. The piece has been reimagined as a three-part audio play which will debut at this year’s ESRC Festival of Social Sciences. Audiences will have online access to the episodes during the Festival\, beginning with a listen-remotely-together debut of episode 1\, and then join a live panel discussion on father’s perinatal mental health and the culture(s) that surround it later in the week. The panel will include the play’s writer and sound designer\, peer support workers\, experts by experience\, innovators in the field and academic researchers from the University of Warwick. \nConfirmed panellists: \nCally Hayes (Cracking writer); Hugh McCann (Alright Mate?
