SUMMARY:City-Wide Men's Health Network Launched and Events: Leeds (Men's Health Unlocked)
DESCRIPTION:Men’s Health Unlocked \n  \nNew city-wide network to tackle men’s health inequalities begins in Leeds. \nLaunch to take place on International Men’s Day. \nFree laptops to get isolated men online\, shopkeepers giving health advice to their male customers\, and a new Leeds-based men’s magazine\, are just some of the aspects of an exciting city-wide men’s health project starting this month in Leeds\, coordinated by Forum Central. \n“Men’s Health Unlocked”\, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund\, promises to keep Leeds at the forefront of Men’s health nationwide by uniting the different strands of men’s work and creating a city-wide network for men’s health. \nIn Leeds\, men are more likely to get the severe form of Covid-19 and to die from the virus than women\, are five times more likely than women to take their own lives\, die on average three years younger\, and are more likely to die prematurely from nearly every major disease that are common to all genders. (See Editor Notes) \nProfessor Alan White\, patron of the national Men’s Health Forum and who has helped to develop the project\, states “We know that there are many men across Leeds who have significant health and social care needs. Leeds has been at the forefront of developing community outreach services\, but demand is now critical. This funding will provide targeted support and guidance to men of all ages at this unprecedented and challenging time.”   \nTo meet the challenge of getting advice\, guidance and support to these men\, key figures in men’s health will now be able to link up\, share ideas\, learn about Covid and other health challenges specific to men\, to make their work even more powerful and far-reaching\, and explore ways to take a more gendered approach to men’s health at all levels. \n“Men’s Health Unlocked will be a central meeting point for men\, and anyone looking to support men\, in the city. A place where they can get up-to-the-minute information on men’s health and activities\, a place where they can volunteer to play a role in supporting other men\, and a place where their voice can be heard and represented to decision-makers at the highest level.”\, says Damian Dawtry\, Project Coordinator. \nNot only will Men’s Health Unlocked finally bring together this ground-breaking work\, it will also be running its own three exciting sub-projects over the course of the next few months\, designed to address the immediate needs of men in the light of the pandemic\, in particular targeting those men who may be experiencing isolation. These will be delivered by three leading charities with extensive experience in supporting men’s health and wellbeing\, and coordinated by Forum Central. \n  \nThis includes: \n“Unlock Online” \nBarca-Leeds will be providing isolated men with internet-enabled tablets\, giving them free online access to help them connect with other people and services. They will be able to access vital connections such as men’s clubs\, or services covering a wide range of areas such as mental health\, addiction and money worries. \n“Unlock Offline” \nTouchstone will be providing activities for isolated men\, with a particular focus on reaching men who are from ethnic minorities. \nManbassador Project \nThe Orion Partnership will be expanding their much-acclaimed Manbassador Project\, working with local businesses to point their regular male customers towards services and activities that might help them with their health and wellbeing. \nUnlocked Magazine \nAs part of the Manbassador Project\, Orion will be producing “Unlocked”\, a regular magazine giving information\, advice and entertainment specifically aimed at men who are isolated\, as well as important updates on staying safe during the pandemic. This will be shared across the city\, both online and offline\,  via food banks\, Neighbourhood Networks and of course the Manbassadors themselves. \n  \nOther Key Partners \nFor many years\, Leeds has been at the forefront of gendered health\, with the landmark State of Men’s Health in Leeds and State of Women’s Health in Leeds reports\, as well as the Leeds Suicide Audit (see Bibliography\, below)\, which is held up as the gold standard in suicide analysis nationwide. \nSee Twitter for Details \n@menshealthunlocked                  #imdleeds \nFor more enquiries please contact Damian Dawtry\,            Men’s Health Unlocked Coordinator\, \n07701 338841 / damian.dawtry@forumcentral.org.uk \n

SUMMARY:King's Talk Experience Live
DESCRIPTION:A valuable experience that encourages men to exchange\, educate and empower one another as ‘no man is an island’. \nHaving faced many trials and tribulations through their journeys\, Entrepreneurs & Thought-Leaders – Nicholas ‘Dex’ Amfo-Gyamera & William Adoasi came together to create this platform to support and inspire others to share their journeys and highlight the importance of mental health and stability in our society. \nIn 2019\, the debut of Kings Talk Live received amazing reviews from attendees and was cited as “the missing piece” in amplifying a struggle that is faced by all and was “key in providing solutions” on how to cope. Due to the success of this event and by popular demand\, we are scheduled to hold the subsequent live event on the 19 November 2020\, our 1 Year Anniversary while simultaneously celebrating International Men’s Day. \nKings Talk Live will be a full-day event with a panel of guest speakers sharing their successes\, setbacks and how they became the men they are today. They will be discussing these 6 key life topics through a Black Men’s lens: Mental Health\, Family (Fatherhood)\, Inclusion\, Entrepreneurship\, Veterans and Young Talent. \n\n9.00 – Event begins & pre-event music \n10.00 – Event introduction – David Alorka \n10.05 – Veterans panel \n10.45 – Session ends with key points – David Alorka \n10.55 – Inclusion panel \n11.40 – Session ends with key points – David Alorka \n11.50 – Performance interlude – Live performances from musicians / spoken word artists \n12.10 – Mental Health panel \n12.45 – Session ends with key points – David Alorka \n12.50 – Family & Fatherhood panel \n13. 30 – Session ends with key points – David Alorka \n13.35 – Entrepreneurship panel \n14:20 – Session ends with key points – David Alorka \n14:25 – Aspiring Talent panel \n15:00 – Interview with Virgin Kings Talk champion \n15:25 – Event Wrap-up – Nicholas & William \n*event schedule could be subject to change \nThe event will be held live virtually for viewers to contribute to the experience. SUMMARY:Masculinity in the Workplace Conference 2020
DESCRIPTION:About this Event\n\n\nWelcome to the Masculinity in the Workplace conference 2020 ‘Virtual Edition’ which will be taking place on the 19th November in conjunction with International Men’s Day. \n“ Masculinity in the workplace consistently has more white men attending than any other diversity/inclusion event. Bravo. Now use it to drive change.” \nAfter the success of the last two events\, we have taken up the challenge to truly drive change at a leadership level. For us\, leadership is not about the corner office. It’s about doing the right thing. It’s about role modelling change and attracting others to follow suit. We need more courageous leadership right now. From everyone. \nPut simply\, our current leaders don’t always have the insight or skills to lead diverse and inclusive teams. The skillset at the top needs to change. Come along and learn these skills\, and be inspired by those showing leadership in 2020. \nJoin us for a day of panels\, keynote speakers and workshops where we will explore: \n\nWhat we can learn from covid19 about modern leadership\nHow people cope and thrive when their version of masculinity is at odds with the dominant version of masculinity\nWhy we still see vulnerability as a weakness when it is fundamental to inclusive leadership\nHow we can create more empathetic leaders\nHow we can build our own cultural intelligence to ensure that workplaces are inclusive\nHow traditional constructs around masculinity getting in the way of us being anti-racist\nHow we can break down the barriers that make it hard for men to get support\n\n\nSPEAKERS\n\n\n\nWe have a fantastic lineup of speakers including: \n\nChristian Thor Larsen\, Vice President\, LEGO retail\nGareth Thomas\, Former professional rugby player\, sporting legend and advocate of gay rights\nGrace Tulip\, Research Manager\, Opinium\nLeendert Den Hollander\, Vice President & General Manager\, Coca-Cola European Partners\nNishma Robb\, Marketing Director\, Google\nNora Bank\, Change Maker\, Utopia\nRobyn Wilder\, Journalist & Author. SUMMARY:Book Launch: The Varied Origins of the Cyber Men
DESCRIPTION:Lisa Ventura \nFollowing on from the huge success of my first book “The Rise of the Cyber Women: Volume One”\, I’m very proud to announce that I have started work on compiling another book to be published on Kindle Direct publishing\, and I’m seeking submissions from men in the cyber security industry to be included in it. \n“The Varied Origins of the Cyber Men: Volume One” will be a collection of inspiring stories and accounts from men in the cyber security and technology industries who are pioneers and leading the way in helping to protect the world from the growing cyber threat. It is hoped that this book will feature men in the cyber security industry from all over the world. \nThose who are included and featured in the book will give their hints\, tips and advice to those who are looking to pursue a career in cyber security and technology or change their career path into cyber security and technology. \nI am particularly looking for men to include in the book who haven’t had a linear path into the cyber security industry\, who got into the industry despite not having a technical background or those who have overcome much adversity to get to where they are today. \nAll proceeds from this book once costs are covered (such as proof reading costs) will be split equally between all contributors included in the book. \n  \nhttps://lisaventura.co.uk/call-for-chapters-the-varied-origins-of-the-cyber-men-volume-one/

SUMMARY:Male of the Year Awards in Northampton
DESCRIPTION:Northampton Borough Council are wonderful supporters of International Men’s Day -every year they hold events and 2020 is not different. \n  \nNext month’s International Men’s Day 2020 will be marked by honouring those inspiring male role models who have made a significant difference to their local communities during a testing year. \n\nToday nominations opened for Male Role Model of the Year Award 2020 on 19 November. \nThis year’s awards – which will take place virtually – aim to recognise the important contributions local men and boys make in their communities\, families\, schools and workplaces. \nNorthampton Borough Council is now calling on residents\, businesses\, schools and community groups to help with the search by nominating inspirational people in their lives – particularly those who have gone above and beyond during a period when many families have been isolated due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. \nCouncillor Anna King\, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety\, said: “The fact these important awards are in their third year is testament to the hard work men and boys have done in their local communities across Northampton. \n“However\, we cannot recognise these individuals without the help of residents who know and work with them closely\, so we call on the public to get involved by nominating these valued role models. \n“Coronavirus has meant this years’ awards will be virtual\, but we still expect to be inundated with nominations that will help us deliver a worthy celebration of the many individuals who have made wonderful contributions to their communities.” \nCouncillor Stephen Hibbert\, Cabinet member for housing and wellbeing\, said: “In previous years we have tried to deliver a fun yet informative initiative that promotes physical and mental wellbeing among our men and boys. \n“This year is no different\, and we are looking forward to working with our partners to develop a full programme that is easily accessible online.” \nNominate someone you know for a Male Role Model of the Year Award – there is an option to upload a video nomination if you wish. \nNominations close on 6 November. \nhttps://www.northampton.gov.uk/news/article/3185/male-heroes-to-be-honoured-next-month

SUMMARY:Essex Football Association - Celebrate Essex's Footie Dads
DESCRIPTION:Know a ‘Footie Dad’ who encourages their star player/s to enjoy grassroots football? Then nominate them for the latest #CelebrateEssex competition category\, which says a huge thank you to the local volunteers who keep the game going. \nThe Twitter contest helps to recognise some of local football’s unsung heroes. It showcases personal stories from Essex legends\, increasing their visibility as role models to engage new members and inspiring newcomers to join the grassroots community as volunteers. Nominations are required via the @EssexCountyFA account by Thursday 12th November. \nVolunteers are the lifeblood of grassroots football\, putting in countless hours of their time so others can enjoy playing the game. Football needs more helpers\, but it also needs to retain and recognise those already involved. Through this monthly Twitter competition\, #CelebrateEssex aims to do just that\, promoting ten different roles throughout the year. \nNovember is the month of the ‘Footie Dad’ category. A Footie Dad could be due a special mention for the support they offer their son or daughter before\, during or after a game. They could help to make sure they get to training safely\, enjoy participating in matches and are encouraged to do their best\, providing positive support afterwards… win\, lose or draw. \nThe category has been specifically chosen to take place in November to coincide with International Men’s Day on Thursday 19th November. Future months will feature these categories: December: Football Family\, January: Media Manager\, February: Coach (Youth and Adult)\, March: Footie Mum\, April: Treasurer\, May: Secretary\, June: Chairperson. \nLast year’s Footie Dad winner was Andrew Hayden from Sporting 77 YFC\, who reacted: “I’m supportive in as many ways as I can be for my son and his footballing journey\, be it coaching him\, watching him\, taking him to Futsal sessions or taking him along to watch Colchester United. To see him smiling and enjoying football gives me enormous pleasure and fulfilment.” \n“I perform my role at Sporting 77 YFC in Braintree by coaching the boys on Saturday and Sunday mornings\, playing in their league format every week. To anyone thinking of doing a similar role… do it! The sheer enjoyment of seeing children smiling\, enjoying themselves\, making memories and developing new football skills\, as well as friendships\, makes it totally worthwhile!” \nStage One: Make Your Nomination on Twitter \nIf you know a Footie Dad who you think should receive some special thanks\, anyone can make a nomination by tweeting (by 12th November): \n“I nominate [Insert Name or Twitter Username] from [Insert Club/Team or Twitter Username] as @EssexCountyFA #CelebrateEssex Footie Dad because…” \nState why your nominee should be the winner and be as descriptive as you can in 280 characters! It’s important to use the #CelebrateEssex hashtag to ensure your entry is registered. \nStage Two: Nominations Reviewed \nOnce the window closes\, all the nominations received will be collated and a panel will decide which individuals will be progressed to the Twitter poll/vote… \nStage Three: Let Voting Commence! \nA Twitter poll/vote will be available at @EssexCountyFA for seven days\, featuring profiles of the nominees so voters can make an informed decision on who to vote for. \nStage Four: And Our Winner Is… \nThe winner of the poll will be contacted to be that month’s ‘Volunteer of the Month’! \nFollow the #CelebrateEssex hashtag on Twitter to keep track of the competition! To find out more about volunteering in grassroots Essex football\, browse the ‘Volunteers’ menu above\, follow @EssexCountyFA on Twitter and search for ‘EssexFootball’ on Facebook. \n#CelebrateEssex Terms and Conditions \n* previous category winners are ineligible for 2020/21 nomination\n* irregular voting patterns could result in the suspension of a category \nCelebrating International Men’s Day in Essex\nWorldwide Occasion on 19th November \nOn Thursday 19th November\, International Men’s Day celebrates\, worldwide\, the positive value men bring to the world\, their families and communities. Positive role models are highlighted to raise awareness of men’s wellbeing. The theme is: “better health for men and boys.” \nThe day is an opportunity for people of goodwill everywhere to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all. Find out more at the International Men’s Day website. \n

SUMMARY:Equation in Notts Launch #SpeakOutToHelpOut Domestic Abuse Campaign for Men
DESCRIPTION:Local charity Equation launch their #Speak out to help out campaign this International Men’s Day to tackle domestic abuse and mental health issues facing men in Notts.   \nEquation’s Domestic Abuse Service for Men (which serves Nottingham City and County)\, received 1212 referrals between (Oct18-Oct19). 1035 of those referrals resulted from incidents being reported to the police\, with hardly any male survivors at all referring themselves prior to police involvement or intervention from health services. It is estimated that 6K men in Notts will experience abuse each year\, so it’s clear that supporting them to speak out to their friends and local support services is vital.   \nThat is exactly what #SpeakOutToHelpOut aims to achieve. The online campaign will encourage men to take to social media to highlight the issue\, create safe spaces in their own networks\, unpick widespread attitudes such as “real men don’t talk about that stuff – you’ve just got to man up”  \nSpeaking out doesn’t make any man\, any less of man \nFrom speaking to men that they’ve supported via their services\, Equation has learned that many of them faced barriers to accessing support or ending the abuse. Some of the examples they gave included not knowing support was available\, feelings of guilt\, fear\, shame or not being believed\, thinking the abuse is part of what is considered ‘normal’ in a relationship\, hoping that things will get better\, and worrying about loosing access to their children.   \nMany of the barriers these male survivors have spoken about are rooted societal attitudes of gender equality\, toxic masculinity\, stigma and shame of speaking out. When it comes to speaking out\, it’s not just men experiencing domestic abuse that are impacted. Every week in the UK\, 125 people take their own lives and 75% of all UK suicides are completed by men. The impacts of Coronavirus have exacerbated these already concerning figures with sharp rises in instances and severity across both issues. While barriers stem from the abuse or health issues themselves and may be hard for us to change as a society\, removing the stigma of speaking out is one we can break down together as a community by  encouraging men to speak out and reassuring them it’s safe to do so without fear of judgement.   \n“We hope that this international men’s day on November 19th\, Men of Notts will take to their social media to raise awareness by sharing social content which states that they believe it is ok to talk\, that they will listen without judgement\, that speaking out about abuse\, mental health or any other concerns don’t make any man any less of man. It’ll also spread key information about how to start and hold these conversations that so many see as awkward and challenging.”

SUMMARY: 50:50 in conversation with Brian Ballantyne
DESCRIPTION:The 19th November is International Men’s Day. For us here at 50:50\, we’re big believers that gender equality won’t be possible without *everyone* being involved. Brian’s not only a 50:50 Ambassador\, he’s also Regional Manager\, Training Programs at Amazon Luxembourg. Author of Confessions of a Working Father and one of the founders of Men for Inclusion. \nThis International Men’s Day we’ll be exploring male stereotype threat\, the challenges of having to conform to society’s idea of what a man should be and the importance of male allies in the battle for better gender balance. \nJoin us live at 12:30pm as we chat to Brian about his experiences and why he’s an active advocate for gender equality. \nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMucuGqqzkrGNyW54OyNY6d2O11sRO7bDoq?utm_content=buffer5046e&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

SUMMARY:Bucks Student Union: Strong Men "A definitive guide to masculinity\, manhood\, and being a man"
DESCRIPTION:To mark International Men’s Day\, “Alpha males”*  Dr Matthew Smith and Dr Piers Worth from the University’s Centre for Positive Psychology** explore what it means to be a strong man in the 21st-century. \nDrawing upon their own experiences\, those of a range of positive male role models\, along with key ideas from positive psychology\, Matthew and Piers will help us all to better appreciate the challenges of modern manhood and suggest how a more nuanced understanding of ‘strengths’ is key to us living our best lives\, whether we are male or female. Most of all\, Piers and Matthew promise to inspire and entertain in equal measure.* \n*Spoiler alert: this title\, and the talk itself\, may well be littered with a healthy dose of irony. \nThis event will be hosted via MS Teams.

SUMMARY:ITV Loose Women - International Men's Day Special
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in Loose Women’s 21-year history\, the show will be rebranding as Loose Men for one day only\, with an all-male panel hosting a special episode to coincide with International Men’s Day on November 19. \nMarvin Humes will anchor the show and be joined by a panel of famous faces including the voice of Love Island\, Iain Stirling\, multi-platinum recording star Ronan Keating\, and radio and TV presenter\, Roman Kemp. \nEarlier this year\, Loose Women launched their Stand by Your Men campaign\, which is part of their award-winning mental health campaign Lighten The Load. The campaign focuses on male mental health and shines a light on how important it is for men to ask for help if they are struggling. \nAs well as sharing their own personal experiences\, the Loose Men will be delving into the biggest issues of the day and also interviewing one of Hollywood’s most popular leading men\, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey. \nMarvin Humes said:  “With everything going on in the world right now there’s never been a more important time for men to be open and honest about their mental health. I’m looking forward to anchoring the first ever Loose Men and raising awareness of the importance of men opening up like women do.” \nIain Stirling said: “We know that men typically find it harder to discuss their anxieties\, especially with other blokes. I’m looking forward to changing the conversation and can’t wait to join the other Loose Men. Hopefully we can inspire any men watching to talk about their feelings too and not keep things bottled up. Also a huge thank you to everyone at Loose Women for allowing us to use their platform for this very worthwhile cause!” \nRonan Keating said: “I’ve long been a big fan of the Loose ladies\, so it’s an honour to become a Loose Man for the day. I’m looking forward to joining Marvin\, Iain and Roman and delving into all the topics\, as well as tackling those important issues us blokes often shy away from talking about. It’s going to be a great show!” \nRoman Kemp said: “When Loose Women asked me to join their first all-male panel\, I jumped at the chance. The ladies have left us very big shoes to fill\, but we’ll do them proud. I can’t wait to enjoy some classic Loose laughs and shine a light on the importance of us guys opening up about mental health.” \nLoose Women editor Sally Shelford said: “We’ve had several men join us as honorary Loose Men over the years\, but this is the first time we’ve handed over the entire show to the guys – and it’s for a very important reason.” \nOur Stand By Your Men campaign\, which is part of our award-winning mental health campaign Lighten The Load\, has been raising awareness about how vital it is that men talk as openly about their struggles as we do on Loose Women. International Men’s Day is the perfect opportunity to bring that message to the forefront and our Loose Men Marvin\, Iain\, Roman and Ronan are just the panel to do it. They’ll also be joined by Hollywood legend Matthew McConaughey\, in what’s set to be a show like no other.” \nCatch the Loose Men on Thursday 19 November from 12.30pm on ITV\, STV and the . \nWatch Loose Women weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV\, STV and the . And don’t forget you can find us on YouTube\, Facebook\, Instagram and Twitter too.
